Heating System Routine Maintenance

  • Check filters once a month.
  • Check around the unit, sniffing for gas odors.
  • Examine exhaust vent for rust, damage, or deterioration.
  • Trim plants near the condensing unit so air can circulate properly.
  • Hire a professional to perform annual system maintenance one month before the heating season begins.

  • Tips for better efficiency

    Install a programmable thermostat

If your family is away from home for roughly the same times throughout the week, a programmable thermostat is a smart solution. If you use the pre-programmed settings effectively, you can expect to save about $180 a year in energy costs!

Seal your heating and cooling ducts

Ducts move air all around your house, keeping you comfortably cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Leaky ducts can really sap your energy efficiency! Repair them with duct tape to increase your system's efficiency by up to 20%.

Seal ducts in those hard-to-reach (and easy to miss) places like your garage, attic, unfinished basement, or crawlspace. Tape up seams and connections for a tight seal and, for maximum efficiency, wrap the ducts in insulation. Seal any other ducts you can get to inside the house itself.

To increase the life of your heating and air conditioning unit, be sure the unit is plugged directly into the wall. Do not use an extension cord! The compressor may become damaged if it doesn't receive enough power on an ongoing basis.
