Staying in: fun winter activities for the whole family

Things seem to ramp up over the winter and holiday seasons—baking, family visits and shopping, to name a few. Here are a few simple ways to add to the festivities in your home, with your kids’ help!

  • Popsicle snowflake wreath- Show your neighbors your excitement for the season with this easy and festive Popsicle stick snowflake wreath. Simply paint jumbo Popsicle sticks white, and glue together to form a snowflake. You can even have each of your children create their own snowflakes, and string them together. Then, attach it to your door. Add lights and a garland for that extra special touch.
  • Indoor s’mores- The chocolate lover in your family is sure to drool over these. To make in the oven, fill a cast iron skillet with chocolate chips, and top with marshmallows. Bake until the marshmallows are golden brown, and the chocolate is melted. Scoop up with graham crackers!
  • Jumbo lights- Here’s a simple way to dress up your holiday lights around your home. Cut a small “X” into a ping pong ball. Then, insert each small light bulb into that X. The ball will fill with light, creating a warm display, ready to hang almost anywhere in your home. Be sure to use LED lights that won’t heat up, because ping pong balls are flammable.
  • Kid-friendly New Year’s Eve drinks- if you’re looking for a fun and new way to celebrate New Year’s Eve with your kids, try including them in your holiday toast—with milk! Simply coat the rim of a glass in sugar and sprinkles, and pour the milk. You can even top the glass with a cookie. This treat is sure to keep them up to midnight!
