Common Mechanical System and Appliance Failures

No matter what mechanical systems or appliances you have in your home, chances are they’ll break down at some point due to normal wear and tear. If you have an HSA Home Warranty, these issues may have potential coverage and they would either be repaired or replaced per the terms and conditions of your contract.

Here are a few of the most common issues you might face:

Refrigerator

  • HSA home warranty flierCompressor motor: this component is what keeps your fridge running and cold. One of the most common ways it breaks down is actually due to too much food. When you overstuff your refrigerator, it has to work harder to keep the entire space cool.

Dishwasher

  • Motor: be sure to load your dishwasher correctly each time you use it. This includes leaving space between dishes, and keeping water pathways clear. If you don’t, your motor has to work even harder to complete its cycle.
  • Spray arm: Like the motor, your dishwasher’s spray arm needs to be able to complete its range of motion each time you wash a load.

Water Heater

  • Gasket/valve: if you see a small leak in your water heater, it may be a worn out gasket or valve. If the leak is not fixed in a timely manner it can lead to bigger problems.
  • Burner: If you’re not getting enough hot water throughout your home, your burner may be out.
  • Sediment build-up: if your water heater’s burner isn’t the problem, there could be sediment build up in the bottom of the tank. This stops the heat from the burner from reaching the water.
  • Rust: This often happens because the anode rod, which is used to absorb small electrical currents in the water, has gone bad. When these currents aren’t absorbed, they can cause rust inside your tank.
